Islander

A 24 ft 11 in classically styled cabin cruiser from Glen-L Marine with a central straight-shaft inboard, a big cabin with dinette, enclosed head, galley and vee berths, and a large cockpit. Double-diagonal plywood bottom with bulbous keel and reverse chine, sheet plywood sides. Finished with brightwork and chrome it becomes the classic without the 40-year-old problems. Glen-L publish a beam of 9 ft 8 in.

The bare hull comes out at about 1500 lb. Displacement is 5355 lb. Headroom below is 6'-1/2". The hull is a vee bottom, hard chine with bulbous keel and reverse curve at the chine. Bottom designed for double diagonal plywood planking, sides developed for sheet plywood. For power they specify single centrally located inboard motor. Glen-L suggests it for the builder who enjoys extra care and detail, and that is where the hours go. Budget 1,500 to 2,500 hours. Measured medians from logged builds appear below.
