25 ft Fantail Steam Launch Beverley
Designed by Jay R. Benford
A 25 ft design from Jay Benford's catalog, drawn for cold moulded or strip planked construction, so the same hull can be built in whichever suits the shop. From the pocket cruiser and tabloid yacht group. In the older usage the designer is deliberately keeping alive, a pocket cruiser is a small cruising powerboat and a tabloid yacht a small cruising sailboat. Small cruising yachts have always been the most popular boats: big enough to sleep aboard, small enough to afford and to handle single-handed.
Benford publishes a displacement of 5,585 lb in coastal cruising trim, which is tanks full with the crew and their stores aboard rather than a shipping weight. Plans are sold to owner-builders, and study plans are sold separately for anyone wanting to look before committing.
