25 ft (7.62m) Tug Yacht

Designed by Jay R. Benford

A 25 ft design from Jay Benford's catalog, drawn for steel chine construction. Benford spent 1966 to 1968 as staff naval architect at Foss Launch and Tug in Seattle, which ran well over a hundred tugs at the time, so the tug designs come out of real towing practice rather than out of a styling exercise. The tug yachts carry modest power for economical cruising and far more accommodation than a working boat would have, and most can still be powered to do useful work.

Benford publishes a displacement of 10,000 lb in coastal cruising trim, which is tanks full with the crew and their stores aboard rather than a shipping weight. Plans are sold to owner-builders, and full-sized patterns come with them and study plans are sold separately for anyone wanting to look before committing.
