Corky
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Corky is barely a boat at all: a pint-sized sailer for a child built around an automobile inner tube, which supplies the sides and the buoyancy and is why the article promised it could not sink. A white pine bottom and end blocks fit inside the tube, held by straps made from old army belts, with a short deck at each end for the mast step and rudder post.
The mast, boom and rudder post are broom handles, the halyard runs through an awning pulley, and the rudder blade is Masonite or 1/2 in plywood. The magazine reckoned on one or two evenings in the workshop, with the sail sewn up at home. The drawings give the parts on a grid with the inner tube size used on the original. A free scan from a vintage magazine, and strictly a toy for warm, sheltered water.
What building a Corky actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
