Foldavan
Designed by Benjy
Not a boat: the Foldavan is a folding caravan from Woodenwidget light enough to tow behind a bicycle. It is 2.4 m long and has three modes. Stowed it is only 210 mm wide for a roof rack or a hallway, on the road it opens to about 600 mm, roughly handlebar width, and in camping mode it is a metre wide with over a metre of headroom and a two-piece mattress. It weighs from 30 kg, carries 75 kg as a trailer and 200 kg when camping.
The plans are written for first-time makers using a few basic tools and easily found materials, including reclaimed timber. The designer says a Foldavan takes about 50 hours to build. Any builds logged here appear below.
What building a Foldavan actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
