3 Piece Boat
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
A seven foot children's boat that comes apart into three sections, from an old magazine feature that billed it as an unusual small boat. The sections nest inside one another so the whole thing fits in a car trunk, and the article was keen on its other lives ashore as a picnic table or a backyard wading pool. The flat bottom and very wide beam are what make it steady enough for youngsters.
Everything is cut from 1/4 in exterior plywood, and the cutting layout gets all the plywood parts out of a single 4 x 16 ft sheet. The framing is hardwood; the original used white oak flooring for the chine molding and cross members and beech for the uprights. The heaviest section weighed 32 lb and the complete boat 76 lb. The scan is free to download from the archive.
