Paddle Bass Boat
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
A shallow-draft bass boat driven by a stern paddle wheel, meant for fishing among lily pads and weeds where a propeller would foul. It has a flat bottom with a 4 ft beam along its whole length, Douglas fir or pine sides about 15 ft long, a live box forward of the midships seat, and a big bow seat to stand on when casting.
Power comes from a small air-cooled Briggs and Stratton engine driving the wheel through chain and belt, so there is no shaft log, and steering is by cable to a rudder. The bottom is a single 3/8 in plywood panel where one is available, so only the chine lines need calking. The scan carries a complete materials list. A free plan and an odd, practical boat for still water.
What building a Paddle Bass Boat actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
