Paddle Boat
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
A twin-hull pedal paddle boat for a lake cottage, built almost entirely of metal. The pontoons are 24 gauge galvanized steel bent around and nailed to pine planks about 8 ft long, with wooden bulkheads, riveted and soldered seams, a drain plug and drawer pulls as handles.
A welded steel angle chassis bolted across the pontoons carries a metal folding chair, pedals, a chain-driven paddle wheel under a sheet metal cover, and a steering control. The article promotes it as safe exercise for children and adults that keeps its buoyancy all season. The build needs welding as well as woodwork, which sets it apart from most of the archive.
What building a Paddle Boat actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
