Endeavour
Designed by Steve Killing
The Endeavour 17 is the sleek touring kayak at the centre of Steve Killing's Bear Mountain range, 17 ft long and 23.5 in wide with a 31 by 15.5 in cockpit and an expected weight of 45 to 50 pounds. Bear Mountain describes her as fast, comfortable and well behaved in waves, suited to day trips or a week's touring, and says her looks are obvious from the moment the station moulds go up.
Mike O'Brien, then senior editor of WoodenBoat, reviewed the lines and pointed to the sharply raked stem and well shaped forward sections, which add buoyancy as she drives into big waves, and to the fine run and near vertical sternpost that help keep control when running before a large sea. The True North XPD was later developed from her for big paddlers. She is built in cedar strip over moulds on a strongback, hull first and then a strip deck.
What building a Endeavour actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
