Hoopy

Designed by Benjy

Not a boat: the Hoopy is a wooden bicycle from Woodenwidget. The box-section frame is cut from 10 mm plywood and bonded with epoxy, with no fasteners at all, and weighs about 3 kg; the complete bike comes out from about 12 kg on 20 in wheels. The drive runs inside the frame, brakes are a back-pedal coaster hub, and gearing is single speed or a two-speed automatic hub. It is 170 cm long and rated for a 200 kg load.

The designer says the frame can be marked, cut and glued ready for varnish in two days with little more than a jigsaw and drill, and that many parts can come from a salvaged bike. No total build time is given. Any builds logged here appear below.
