Origami

Designed by Benjy

A folding dinghy from Woodenwidget made of plywood panels joined by PVC fabric. The plans cover a 6 ft 2 in Origami 6 and an 8 ft Origami 8; the smaller folds to a package 17 in wide and 4 in thick, weighs from about 15 kg and carries two adults, while the 8 footer weighs from 20 kg and carries three. Either assembles in about a minute and can be rowed, motored or sailed.

No boatbuilding experience is needed, only a jigsaw, a plane and basic woodworking. The designer's own breakdown is about 6 hours to mark and cut the panels, about the same to varnish and about 6 to assemble, so roughly 20 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
