Plurt
Designed by Benjy
Not a boat: the Plurt is a 5 m diameter insulated plywood yurt from Woodenwidget, giving 20 square metres of floor and 2.3 m of headroom, with a taller option. Unlike a lattice-walled yurt it is made of interchangeable panels in which the insulation is part of the structure, so windows can go anywhere. No panel weighs more than 20 kg or is longer than 2.5 m, the crown is a bicycle wheel under a plexiglass dome, and the whole building weighs about 250 kg.
Panels are made one at a time on a jig, so little workspace is needed, and the designer asks only for basic power tool skills. He puts the build at about 200 hours and roughly 3,000 euros in materials. Any builds logged here appear below.
What building a Plurt actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
