Northeaster Dory Scale Model
Kit by Chesapeake Light Craft
The Northeaster Dory is a 17 foot stitch and glue lapstrake dory that Chesapeake Light Craft introduced in 2007, drawn after the 19th century fishing dories of Massachusetts Bay around Nahant and Swampscott. More than a thousand full size boats are afloat, rowed and sailed by first time builders.
This kit builds her at exactly one eighth scale, 25 and a half inches long, from laser cut parts. The hull goes together in the same order as the real boat, stitched with copper wire and glued with fast setting CA glue in place of epoxy and fiberglass, in about ten hours. Spars, sailcloth for the sloop rig and a pair of oars are included. It is a display model, and CLC says it is too small to fit for radio control.
What building a Northeaster Dory Scale Model actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
