Bay Pilot 18
Designed by Arch Davis
An 18 ft outboard boat by Arch Davis with much the same underbody as his Jiffy V-22, for 30 to 60 hp. A developed plywood bottom with a built-in spray rail is combined with glued lapstrake topsides for extra flare forward. Beam is 7 ft 3 in, draft 8 in with the motor up, and weight about 1,825 lb including the motor. The plans cover both a cabin cruiser and a center console version.
The hull is built upside down over bulkheads and frames slotted onto a fore-and-aft girder each side, an egg-crate structure, with the topside planking laid over stringers. It takes 31 sheets of plywood, and the designer rates it for builders with some woodworking experience. Budget 800 to 1,200 hours. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
