18 ft Flat Bottom 492
Designed by Response Marine
An 18 ft stretch of the Response Marine 16 ft flat-bottom skiff, part of the family that began when Sound Marine asked for a simple 16, 18 and 20 footer. Design #492 is 18 ft long with a 6 ft 9 in beam; a companion kit, #507, widens it to 7 ft 3 in for more stability and load.
The structure matches the 16: 0.190 in plate, external channels on the bottom, and no interior deck, so the hull is not self-bailing at rest. The narrower version weighs about 772 lb bare and the wider about 785 lb. Builders have usually run these with tiller outboards, though a console, a self-bailing deck or a forward cuddy can be added. As with all the company's kits, the buyer gets NC cutting files for one hull plus drawings and parts and stock lists.
