Flats Stalker 18
Designed by Jacques Mertens
An 18 ft poling skiff by Jacques Mertens of Bateau for sight fishing in very shallow water. The hull is narrow, 54 in, and draws 3.5 in at a 765 lb displacement, and the low chine without spray rails keeps hull slap down. It is laid out for tiller steering, 15 hp with a 25 hp maximum, and weighs 200 to 265 lb.
Stitch and glue plywood and epoxy, needing no woodworking skill or special tools. The designer's figure is about 70 hours to get the hull ready for sanding and paint, so budget 120 to 200 hours in all. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
