Tandem Trip
Designed by Ashes Still Water Boats
A 17 ft by 33 in asymmetric tripping canoe for inland lake country, which Ashes reckons will carry ten days of gear for two. Trevor Paetkau gave her fine ends, elliptical sections and asymmetric stern rocker so she comes up to speed quickly, glides and holds her course with little correction, and a slight flare at the ends turns spray while the low profile stays under the wind. A light build comes out around 40 pounds; a conventional one closer to 55.
Ashes places her on the lighter, faster side of the modern asymmetric tripper type and is clear that she favours efficiency over stability; anyone fishing or paddling with children and dogs is steered to the Angler's Trip or Angler's Day. She suits flat lake systems and Class 1 water rather than rapids or big following seas. Plans arrive as five 24 by 36 in PDF sheets, two of them carrying the full size stations.
What building a Tandem Trip actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
