Bartender 20.5
Designed by George Calkins
A newer addition to the Bartender line, drawn to fill the gap between the 19 and the 22 after a number of builders had stretched 19 footers on their own and liked the result. The 20.5 is 20 ft 6 in long with a 6 ft 10 in beam and more freeboard than the 19, enough to take a cuddy cabin comfortably, and she can be finished as an open runabout or with the cuddy.
She is the first of the small Bartenders really set up for inboard power: the plans show a four-cylinder installation of 75 to 140 hp, with a drawing worked around the Yanmar JH3 and JH4 diesels, while an outboard of 40 to 60 hp in a tilting well is the alternative. Built to the weights in the plans, the designers expect 2 to 3 gallons an hour at 15 to 18 knots. Like the rest of the range she is plywood over sawn frames, and the plans come for lofting or with full-size patterns, with an instruction book and materials list either way.
What building a Bartender 20.5 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
