Extreme Flats 20

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 20 ft 4 in tunnel-hull flats skiff by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, worked out with flats fisherman Ken Owens as an enlarged GF16 garvey with a tunnel aft. It is drawn to float in almost nothing: hull draft is 2 in at design waterline, with an 8 ft beam and a hull weight of about 450 lb. Power is 25 hp with a 50 hp maximum.

Plywood cored epoxy and fiberglass composite, stitch and glue, offered with or without a sole. The designer says it can go together in a few weekends if kept simple. The designer's figure is 30 hours for the hull and 80 or more for a finished boat. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
