Bartender 29
Designed by George Calkins
The largest boat in the Bartender range, one of the sizes Calkins added to the fleet after the original 22 footer proved itself. Like the others she was intended to be adapted to work or pleasure, and Bartenders have served as harbour patrol and surf rescue boats in Australia and as crew boats in the offshore oil industry, but the 29 is the one with a cabin big enough for extended cruising, with 6 ft headroom.
The plan page publishes little in the way of dimensions. It recommends a modern diesel of 250 hp or more and notes that construction is the same as the smaller boats, plywood planking over simple frames, with detailed instructions included. The set is sold as plans only, without full-size patterns, so this is a project for a builder who is comfortable lofting a 29 ft hull.
What building a Bartender 29 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
