Cat Ketch 17
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 17 ft 6 in camp cruiser by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, a sharpie hull under an unstayed cat ketch rig of 118 sq ft. It grew out of requests for a camping version of the Caravelle and puts simplicity first, with separate cockpits and generous stowage for extended trips. Beam is 6 ft, hull weight about 240 lb and draft 5 in with the board up.
Plywood cored epoxy composite, stitch and glue, using the sharpie assembly sequence the designer rates as the easiest there is and suitable for a first-time builder. The designer's figure is about 60 hours for hull, deck and seats plus another 60 for foils and spars, varying with finish. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
