Duckling 17 Sailing Version
Designed by Sam Devlin
A sailing development of Sam Devlin's Duckling 17 rowing dory, released in late 2024. LOA is 17 ft 3.5 in (5.27 m), sail area 51 sq ft and dry weight about 215 lb. The plans show a hull that separates into two parts for transport. The first boat was built by Martin Chlad in the Czech Republic, and his photos are included with the study plans.
Stitch and glue, but the take-apart joint and sailing gear make it more involved than the plain rower, so a little experience helps. Budget 150 to 250 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Duckling 17 Sailing Version actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
