Eider 17
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 17 ft 3 in trailerable cabin sloop by Sam Devlin, a step up from his 15 ft Nancy's China. The original Eider dates from 1978, when his young yard built about a dozen as stock boats, and he later redrew her for home builders. She sets 169 sq ft, carries 630 lb of ballast on a 1,636 lb displacement and draws 1 ft 8 in with the board up. The cabin sleeps two and the large cockpit is self-bailing. A CNC-cut kit is available.
Stitch and glue, with ballast, a cabin and a full rig, so some earlier experience helps. Budget 800 to 1,200 hours as a rule of thumb. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Eider 17 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
