Classic 19
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 19 ft 2 in offshore center console by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, with a moderate 12 degree vee similar to hulls Mertens drew for Pursuit: enough deadrise for a smooth ride in a seaway, moderate enough to stay steady at low speed. Beam is 8 ft, hull weight about 1,200 lb, fuel 60 gallons, and power runs from 90 hp to a 150 hp maximum.
Epoxy, fiberglass and plywood composite built stitch and glue over a self-aligning jig. No woodworking skill or special tools are assumed and the designer allows it as a first project, with the caution that experience saves time and material. The designer's figure is 80 hours for the hull and 200 or more for a finished boat. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Classic 19 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
