Down East Cruiser 23
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 22 ft 10 in pilothouse cruiser by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, the long-cabin version of the Novi 23. Down East looks sit on a hard-chine planing hull with a deep forefoot and skeg, powered by 50 to 100 hp. The pilothouse has 6 ft 2 in headroom, the forward cabin has two bunks, and the dinette converts to a berth. Beam is 8 ft 2 in and hull weight about 1,500 lb.
Epoxy, fiberglass and plywood composite: a stitch and glue shell glassed both sides, set up on a jig made from its own bulkheads, with a foam sandwich superstructure as an option. The designer's figure is 80 hours for the hull and 250 or more for a finished boat. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Down East Cruiser 23 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
