Novi 23
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 22 ft 10 in Nova Scotia style outboard boat by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the NV23. It pairs workboat topsides with an efficient planing bottom: a deep forefoot like a modern lobster boat ahead of a true monohedron run. Beam is 8 ft 2 in, draft 8 in, hull weight about 1,500 lb, and 50 to 100 hp is recommended.
A plywood-cored epoxy and glass composite, assembled stitch and glue on a jig made from the bulkheads, frames and a few temporary molds. The designer calls it easy but notes it is a large boat. His figure is 80 hours for the hull and 250 or more finished. Budget 500 to 900. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Novi 23 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
