Archimedes 22
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 22 ft 10 in slender displacement launch by Sam Devlin, first drawn for an Australian customer as the platform for a steam engine and boiler. Devlin also sees her as a natural electric boat, with either an inboard electric motor or an electric outboard, and a small petrol outboard works too. She is stitch and glue marine plywood sheathed in epoxy with fiberglass and Dynel, only 5 ft 4 in in beam and about 1,600 lb.
The open layout keeps the woodwork simple, and Devlin says even a novice can build her in any of the power versions, though a steam or inboard electric installation adds real work. Budget 400 to 700 hours as a rule of thumb. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Archimedes 22 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
