Panga 20
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 20 ft 3 in panga by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the PG20. It follows the proven panga workboat type: a long, narrow vee hull that is rugged and cheap to run. Beam is 6 ft 1 in, draft 8 in, hull weight about 1,000 lb with console and tank, and it needs only 50 to 70 hp with an 18 gallon tank.
Stitch and glue in method but a true sandwich of plywood between directional glass. The designer notes that a long, slim hull is easier to plank. His figure is 40 hours for the hull and 100 or more finished. A first build more often runs 250 to 450. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Panga 20 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
