Fast Garvey 10
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 10 ft planing garvey by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, a new design in the style of the Garvey 11 for people who found that boat a foot too long. The 57 in beam gives stability, room and load capacity, and 11 degrees of deadrise softens the ride compared with a flat bottom. It works as a tender for up to four people, weighs about 95 lb empty and planes with a small outboard, 10 hp at most.
Stitch and glue from flat plywood panels and epoxy fiberglass tape, with no jig and no lofting. The designer calls it easy and fast. The designer's figure is 20 hours for the hull and 40 or more for a finished boat. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
