Fast Skiff 14 Low Sheer
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 13 ft 6 in micro flats skiff by Jacques Mertens of Bateau, a decked, low-sheer version of the Fast Skiff 14. Beam is 60 in, designed hull weight about 190 lb, and it draws 5 in at a 610 lb displacement. Power is 15 hp with a 25 hp maximum. An ultralight variant swaps the framing, decks and sole for foam sandwich.
Plywood cored epoxy composite built upside down on a simple jig, with the hull panels planked around the frames. The designer says a first-time builder can manage it. The designer's figure is under 40 hours to assemble the hull, with 80 hours the upper end for a show-quality finish. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
