Candlefish 13
Designed by Sam Devlin
A 13 ft 4 in open outboard skiff by Sam Devlin, first drawn in 2006 for an Alaskan customer who wanted a cartoppable fishing boat for northern rivers and lakes. It has since proved itself as a yacht tender, and Devlin built one for his own cruiser. Dry weight is about 250 lb, draft 4.5 in with one aboard, and it planes at over 20 mph with 8 hp. Loaded to 1,323 lb it still shows more than 13 in of freeboard. A CNC-cut hull kit is sold.
A tiller-steered stitch and glue skiff that works well as a first build. Budget 120 to 200 hours as a rule of thumb. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Candlefish 13 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
