Playboy
Designed by Grandpa's Archive
Playboy is William D. Jackson's sports runabout, Craft Print Project No. 201: 13 ft 6 in overall (the headline rounds it to 14 ft) with a 5 ft 9 in beam. She was styled to look like an inboard, with wrap-around spray rails, a walk-through to the forward cockpit and a glove box, and seats two forward and three or four aft.
The bottom is 3/8 in plywood with a convex shape and the sides are 1/4 in mahogany plywood. Jackson gave the hull weight as 300 lb and quoted 32 mph with a 25 hp Johnson or Evinrude of 1953, which dates the design, and saw her as a boat for towing skiers and aquaplanes or for fishing. The cost table compares mahogany and fir versions. The scanned article is free to download.
What building a Playboy actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
