Honker 15

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 14 ft 10 in hunting and fishing skiff by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the Honker (HK15). The idea came from a 1950s magazine design found while researching duck boats. It is slim at 3 ft 7 in beam, draws almost nothing, weighs about 110 lb and takes a motor of 1.5 hp at most, so it is a boat for paddle, pole or oars in marsh and backwater.

Assembled stitch and glue in sharpie fashion, with panels bent around a mid frame and the outside fully glassed. The designer calls it suitable for a first-time builder: under 20 hours to assemble the hull and about 50 hours for a show finish. Budget 40 to 80 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
