Chester Yawl
Designed by John C. Harris
A 15 ft fixed-seat or sliding-seat pulling boat by John C. Harris of Chesapeake Light Craft, based on the Whitehall type with a plumb bow and wineglass transom. The LapStitch lapstrake plywood hull is 42 in wide, about 100 lb, and carries 450 lb, or two to three adults. The thwart-free interior has 9 ft floorboards long enough to sleep on. Development began in 2001. CLC sells kits and does not offer a sailing version.
CLC grades it a beginner kit within reach of anyone with a little woodworking experience, and says to expect around 120 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
What building a Chester Yawl actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
