Jon Boat / Garvey 11
Designed by Jacques Mertens
An 11 ft 1 in fast garvey for outboard and oars by Jacques Mertens, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the GV11. Unlike the flat-bottomed GF jon boats it has about 10 degrees of deadrise for a softer ride, plus spray rails. The 5 ft beam gives more room than an inflatable of the same length. Empty weight is about 105 lb; 5 to 6 hp planes it solo and 10 hp is the maximum.
Stitch and glue from flat panels bent around two frames and the transom, with no jig and no lofting. The designer calls it easy and fast: 20 hours for the hull, 40 or more finished. A beginner might budget 50 to 90 hours. Real hours from logged builds are below.
