Pro Tunnel
Designed by Bob Dillon
Dillon's best-known tunnel boat, built in the winter of 2009 for the GT Pro class raced around Minnesota by the Twin City Powerboat Association. The goal was the most aerodynamic lift possible in a boat that still met the class minimum of 650 lb for boat, motor and driver, and the answer was a deep, low-camber airfoil body over a 41 in tunnel. The prototype's buyer won six of eleven races in its first season and took the class championship in 2011.
She is 11 ft 1 in long with a 78 in beam and a bare hull of about 220 lb, and was designed around the 30 and 35 hp OMC two-cylinder outboards, with a ceiling of 40 hp and 130 lb. Dillon reckons the build is within reach of a determined first-timer, and the hull also makes a lively non-racing boat with something like a 25 or 30 hp Tohatsu.
What building a Pro Tunnel actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
