Mini Maia 21

A 21 ft 2 in pilothouse mini trawler by Jacques Mertens, the smaller sister of the Maia 24, sold by Bateau / Boat Builder Central as the MM21. It is aimed at waters like the Intracoastal and the Great Loop, with a large skeg to protect it when grounding. Trailer weight is about 1,300 lb with 200 lb of ballast, draft 15.5 in, and a 6 to 8 hp four-stroke is all it needs. Pilothouse headroom is 80 in.

Stitch and glue with a plywood-cored glass sandwich bottom and structural furniture. The designer advises building a small boat first to learn the method. His figure is 200 hours for the hull and 400 or more finished. Budget 600 to 1,200. Logged build hours for this design are shown below.
