Moonfish 14

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 14 ft 5 in lateen-rigged board boat by Jacques Mertens for Bateau / Boat Builder Central, plan MF14. It belongs to the same family as the Sunfish, but has a vee hull and was drawn for stitch and glue. Beam is 4 ft, hull weight about 150 lb and sail area 69 sq ft.

The hull goes together around one longitudinal frame and a few cross frames, with the daggerboard case and mast step built as a single stiffening unit, using cleats and glassed seams. The designer says a first-time builder can do it and gives 30 hours or less for a hull ready to paint plus 20 for foils and spars. Budget 60 to 120 hours. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
