Duckling 14 Sail
Designed by Sam Devlin
The sailing version of Sam Devlin's 14 ft 4 in Duckling, a slim six-panel rowing boat first built as a tender for a Devlin Sockeye 45. While preparing the home-builder plans, Devlin added a 57 sq ft sprit sail on an unstayed mast with a daggerboard. The whole rig stows inside the hull and sets up in a few minutes, and she still rows properly when the wind drops.
Stitch and glue, with the mast, spars, daggerboard case and rudder added to the basic rowing hull. Fine as a first boat. Budget 90 to 160 hours as a rule of thumb. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Duckling 14 Sail actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
