Outboard Skiff 19

Designed by Jacques Mertens

A 19 ft vee-hull outboard boat by Jacques Mertens for Bateau / Boat Builder Central, plan OB19, offered with a centre console or dual consoles. The aim was maximum seaworthiness in an economical build: the cockpit averages 26 in deep and still self-bails at 3,000 lb displacement. Beam is 7 ft 4 in, hull weight about 960 lb with console and tank, fuel 30 or 60 gallons, and 70 to 90 hp is recommended.

Stitch and glue with a plywood-cored glass sandwich bottom and structural frames and seat tops. Many cuts are straight lines made flat on the floor. The designer's figure is 80 hours for the hull and 200 or more finished. Budget 300 to 550. Real hours from logged builds are below.
