Phantom 15
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 14 ft 6 in tunnel-drive flats boat by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, aimed at anglers who want a small footprint in very skinny water. It is a true composite hull that can be built with a plywood core (about 600 lb, 4 in draft) or a foam core (about 375 lb, 3.25 in draft). Recommended power is 25 hp with 40 hp as the maximum.
The designer does not recommend it as a first build, because the tunnel and sponsons call for some familiarity with the materials and method. The designer's figure is about 200 hours to complete, so a newcomer to epoxy work might budget 250 to 350. Measured medians from build logs appear below.
What building a Phantom 15 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
