Laker 14

Designed by Bob Dillon

The biggest of Bob Dillon's tunnel boats and the one he drew as a recreational boat rather than for a race class. At 14 ft 6 in with an 82 in beam and a hull weight around 350 lb, the Laker 14 is meant for three-cylinder outboards of 60 to 80 hp, with a ceiling of 75 hp and 300 lb, and Dillon's own boat with a 1978 70 hp Mercury was approaching 60 mph once the propeller was sorted out in 2014.

He built the prototype with white pine stringers and 5 mm exterior plywood, and recommends 5 mm marine or exterior ply for the hull with a doubled layer on the sponson pads. His own cockpit was a narrow racing one, but the plans also show a wider two-seat version. Like all his sets, the plans are scaled drawings of every part that print on ordinary paper, backed by online construction notes that can be read before buying.
