Pilot 19
Designed by Jacques Mertens
An 18 ft 11 in pilothouse outboard cruiser from Jacques Mertens and Bateau. It is the vee-hull version of the flat-bottomed HM19, drawn to handle chop without pounding. A small pilothouse sits over a cuddy with a 6 ft 6 in vee berth. The stitch and glue composite hull weighs about 1,300 lb bare, beam is 7 ft 8 in, fuel capacity is 60 gallons, and power is 90 hp with 125 hp as the maximum.
It can be a first project, but the designer suggests building a small canoe first to save time and materials. The designer's figures are 80 hours for the hull and 300 hours or more for a finished boat, so budget 300 to 500. The medians below come from builders who logged this boat here.
What building a Pilot 19 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
