Prameke 7'-8'
Designed by Jacques Mertens
A 7 ft 8 in pram dinghy by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, the successor to the D4. The hull is laid out to get the most from two sheets of 1/4 in plywood, giving a 4 ft 8 in beam, more rocker and more stability than the D4. It rows with 6 ft oars, sails under a 35 sq ft Optimist-style sprit rig whose spars stow inside the hull, or takes a 2 to 3 hp outboard. Designed weight is about 60 lb.
A good first boat: there are no scarfs, and no woodworking skills or special tools are needed. The designer's average for the hull is 30 hours; allow 40 to 70 hours with the sailing rig and paint. Real hours from logged builds are below.
