A 12 ft vee-bottom dinghy by Jacques Mertens for Bateau, a stretched version of the V10 on the same 4 ft 6 in beam. It rows properly, takes an outboard of up to 6 hp and can be rigged with a 39 sq ft sprit sail; the sail plan is included. The designer credits it with more carrying capacity than the V10 while still being car-toppable at about 95 lb.
Construction is stitch and glue with simple butt blocks. It takes more time than a flat-bottomed boat but no more skill, and no woodworking experience or special tools are required. The designer's average for the hull is 40 hours; budget 60 to 110 with rig and paint. Real hours from logged builds are below.
