Motorsnipa no. 11
Designed by Bertil Andersson
Gunnar Svensson built this motor double-ender at Mölle in Skåne in 1971, with keel, stems and frames in oak and planking in pine, and fitted her with a 7 hp Penta MD 1 diesel. She was measured in October 1979.
Andersson's notes on the motorsnipa explain the history behind boats like her. The first engine in a Blekinge fishing boat went in in 1904 and cost more than four times the boat. At first fishermen simply cut a propeller aperture into sailing hulls; later builders filled out the bow and stern to carry the weight, though many did not fully adjust their eye until after the war. She is 5.72 m by 2.03 m, drawn on three 1:10 sheets: construction, frames and lines.
What building a Motorsnipa no. 11 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
