Multichine 31
Designed by Roberto Barros
The Multichine 31 breaks with the usual beam to length proportions: at 9.45 m overall she is 3.54 m wide, and the designers reckon that gives her about the living space of a boat three or four feet longer. They also argue that the extra width costs little in build time or materials, the main penalties being a wider shed and harder road transport, and that marina fees based on length may even favour it.
She is built in plywood and glass and is said by her builders to be one of the most stable and seaworthy boats of her length. Published figures give 4,500 kg light displacement, 1,450 kg of ballast, a 1.63 m draft, 44 square metres of sail and a 21 hp auxiliary, with 360 litres of water and 1.84 m of headroom.
What building a Multichine 31 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
