Pop 20

Designed by Roberto Barros

The Pop 20 is B&G's answer to the weekend sailor who wants a pocket cruiser for the family without a large bill. She is 6.20 m long with a 2.20 m beam, a light displacement plywood and epoxy hull with low wetted surface, and the designers say she accelerates when she heels rather than rounding up, which keeps the helm light.

The drawings were conceived almost as a digital kit, printed on A0 sheets with full size patterns for every station, the transom, stem and fin keel, so that the amateur has little room to mismeasure; the designers compare assembly to flat pack furniture and call it their easiest fin keel boat to build. A flush deck keeps the sheathing simple. Below there is a double berth forward over a chemical toilet, a small galley either side of the mast bulkhead and two quarter berths. A box keel is drawn as an alternative to the fin.
