Samoa 34
Designed by Roberto Barros
A 10.40 m cruising sloop meant to be both robust and quick, with enough power to beat to windward in heavy weather and, the designers suggest, enough speed to race offshore with a fair chance in the cruising class. B&G say she was drawn to meet EU Category A, and that dozens built from the plans have been sailed hard, several of them on Atlantic round trips.
The hull is listed as GRP sandwich or wood and epoxy strip planking. She is 3.40 m in beam with a 1.60 m draft and 6,040 kg light displacement, of which 2,000 kg is ballast. She carries 54.5 square metres of sail and a 29 hp engine, with up to 2 m of headroom in the saloon. One example, Luthier, appeared at the Australian Wooden Boat Festival in 2025.
What building a Samoa 34 actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
