13' Kajak
Designed by Boatkits
A 4.00 m touring kayak, the smallest in the Boatkits range, supplied as a CNC-cut stitch-and-glue plywood kit by the German-language shop of Denmark's Boatplans ApS. Beam is 0.67 m and the finished boat weighs about 16 kg. Apart from the deck the hull is symmetrical end to end, which cuts build time. It suits day trips and tours of a few days and will carry a well-built adult.
Boatkits recommends it to anyone wanting to try kayak building and get afloat quickly. Boatkits gives 30 to 40 hours for hull and structure only and puts fairing, paint and outfitting at 1 to 1.5 times that again. A rough budget is 60 to 100 hours. Hours recorded by builders on this site are shown below.
What building a 13' Kajak actually takes
Medians from the build logs kept on this site, not the designer’s estimate. Nobody has logged this boat here yet, so they are empty until the first builder does.
Those medians firm up as more people log this boat.
